Welcome New Scouts

We have three brand new Scouting members: Benjamin R., Oscar W. and Hanley L. in our Tiger den. Please give them a warm welcome!

October Pack Meeting 10/1/19 6:30 p.m. Our October Pack meeting will be all about the exciting opportunities Scouting has to offer as you get older. Our engaging guest speakers will make you want to be a BSA Scout! After the meeting, any Scouts that want to, can head over with their parents to City Hall across the Street to the City Council Meeting where the kids will be introduced before “Walk to School Day.”

We are trying a different sign in process for this meeting to make it faster. There will be a table in the back of the room. Each Den will have their flag in front of the table. Their sign up sheet will be next to their den flag. Lions and Tigers (Kindergarten & first grade), Wolves (2nd grade), Bears (3rd grade), Webelos/Arrow of Light ( 4th and 5th grade). After kids are signed in, they can do the gathering project. When the meeting is about to begin, , they should go sit with their Den in the front of the room. [b]There is no running in the room during the meeting or climbing on the support poles. If you see someone doing this, please ask them to stop! [/b] Our goal is to have a more organized meeting. Additionally, we will use a voice amplifier to ensure everyone can hear the speaker. Thank you to parents for your suggestion! Please let us know if you have other ideas to help things to be more organized, streamlined, and calmer. We understand kids have wiggles and they need to get their wiggles out too!

We have a contract with the church that we will respect and take care of their building. Please read the specific text below and [b]make sure your kids don’t play outside the church or on the retaining walls at the entrance where we come in.[/b] One of the stipulations is, “Children are not allowed to play on the railings and retaining walls outside the building under any conditions. No one may use the parking lot or the lawns on either side of the building for recreation of any kind. This especially includes the contemplative garden on the East side of the building.” [/b]

Please sign up to help at the meeting. [b] We need four adults to help with a craft for this month’s gathering activity and two more to assist with people traffic flow and gathering forms.[/b]

Information Night - Tuesday, 9/241/9 6:45 p.m. Lakeview Elementary School Gym[/b]

We have our information night for friends or neighbors who are interested in Cub Scouts this Tuesday, 9/24. This event is not for our current Cub Scouts since we won’t have enough adults available to supervise. Please send friends and neighbors you know to come learn about our pack and join. Families can join online (follow the steps on our website http://www.kirklandpack550.com/join or by completing a paper registration, which will be available at our information night.

Harvest Service Project - Saturday, October 5

Save the date to help out at the Food Bank Farm. We’ll be harvesting squash and other veggies from 9-12pm. Come and stay as long as you can. Thanks to Hannah L for coordinating this service opportunity for the pack! This is a favorite service project for many of our kids. We hope to see many of you there! Make sure everyone has garden or farm gloves to wear to protect your hands.

Zoo Snoozes 10/25 to 10/26 & 11/1 to 11/2

Everyone who is attending a Zoo Snooze will need to fill out a form for the Zoo staff. There is an adult form and also a youth form. You will be receiving them by email. We also must have a current medical form on file for any Scout, sibling and adult who are attending. We will be reaching out to you to let you know if we need to you to turn them in. We would like all paperwork turned in at the 10/1/19 meeting since it is the last time we will see everyone before the Snoozes.

2020 Cub Scout Winter Camp [/b]will take place at Camp Sheppard and registrations are open now. All 0550 pack members are invited to register for Camp Session 5 (between Feb 21th and Feb 23rd) without delay as high-demand sessions are filling fast.

The winter camp fee is $120 for Friday night arrivals and $110 per person for Saturday morning arrivals.

If you are registering as a guest, please don’t forget to enter the pack (pack number is: 550; District is New South, Council is: Chief Seattle Council) details on the general admission information page.

[b]Program and Training Conference - for any parents![/b] The Program and Training Conference (PTC) is a one stop training opportunity for leaders and parents from the entire council to get together and learn more about Scouting. The all day conference features many outstanding opportunities for both position-specific and supplemental training adult leaders in Cub Packs, Scout Troops, Venture Crews and Sea Scouts, as well as district and council committees. It's all at PTC and as you can see in the name... it's about Program and it's about Training which will create a better Scouting program for the youth we serve. Date: 10/19/19 Time: 7:40 to 4:45 p.m. Location: N. Seattle College Cost: $45 ($10 discount for registering before 10/14/19) Register : https://www.seattlebsa.org/ptc

Parent Volunteers Needed: Our Pack meetings only run smoothly with the help of our parent volunteers. Please sign up to help with an event--see below for available opportunities.

Even if you are new to Scouting, we can mentor you and walk you through the process of leading an event. [/b]We need every family to help with an event or leadership at some point during the year. [b] Thank you for your help! Please email Margo and let her know what you can help with.

Secretary: Attend monthly leadership meetings (usually the 2nd Sunday from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Take meeting minutes and email them out to the Committee and Den Leaders. Be the keeper of the medical forms and ask families for new ones before they expire. The next meeting is on 10/13/19.

Assistant Cub Master: Fill in for the Cub Master when he isn’t available and help out at events.

MLK Service Project 1/20/20 Communicate the event, be the contact person, attend the event, and communicate who attended.

Blue and Gold Party 2/4/20 - Committee of 2-3 to plan the event.

Pinewood Derby 2/18/20 (February) - Committee of 2-3 to plan the event.

Rocket Launch - Early Spring - Organizer - Coordinate the equipment, launchers and volunteers for the event. Advertise event to the pack, coordinate sign up at pack meeting and online, and lead the event on the day of the launch.

Recruiting Committee We need a Committee to organize our Spring Recruitment to be held on a Tuesday evening in April. It involves marketing to the community, setting up the event at Peter Kirk Elementary School and organizing the night. It would also involve staffing Science Night at Peter Kirk and the Fall Recruitment Night.
