January 1, 2021 Newsletter - Cub Scouts Pack 550
Happy New Year Cub Scout Families!
Help our Camps continue to thrive! Support the annual giving our pack does for “Friends of Scouting”- We have many wonderful camps in the Pacific Northwest where our Cub Scouts and BSA Scouts can enjoy the outdoors throughout the year. Every year we enjoy Summer Camp at Camp Edwards. Many of you have also had fun going to Camp Shepard’s Winter Camp. These camps are costly to run, and they require funding in addition to our dues.
Click on this link. https://www.seattlebsa.org/family-friends-of-scouting From there, click on “Join Summit Circle” or “Make one time Gift”. Enter the amount you want to give. Then select: “Lake Shores District”. From there it will ask for Unit type/Number. Write in Pack 550.
Knots - January 5, 2021
January is “knot tying month”. You don’t need to do it on January 5th. Pick any day that works for you. You will find your rope in your bag that you picked up in January. You can update Scoutbook with the knots you complete or email Margo, and she will update for you. The knots are below with links to videos of how to do them.
Resource for Cub Scouts and knot tying

Margo will send out information to everyone about it.
Pinewood Derby Workshop - If you would like to have your car cut out by parents in our pack, please sign up for the date you would like and drop it off at Margo’s in the basket on her front porch. You will receive it back about a week later and you can add your wheels, weights, paint it and make it just the way you like it!
Pinewood Derby - Check in your Car! Saturday, February 6, 2021 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Please sign up for a time to check in your car. We will weigh the cars and check to make sure they meet the parameters below. The pack will not have weights this year. You can put them on and weigh before you come to ensure you are within weight. Many kids use pennies to add weight to their cars. There are lots of YouTube videos about how to make a fast Pinewood Derby Car.
Pinewood Derby Rules

Blue and Gold Party Tuesday, February 9, 2021, 6:30 p.m.- Make your “Mug Cake” from your bag you picked up in December. We will eat them together at 6:30 on February 9th! This year we wanted to make it easy for parents so they wouldn’t have to shop, but kids could still bake (in the microwave - a new experience)!
Geocache There is still time to complete the Geocache if you haven’t! Mark Rice set up a Geocache for your Scouts. All information needed for it is in an email sent on: 11/19. It is titled: “Pack 550 Jobox Geocache” This is a one mile walk which you may be able to use for one of your hikes for a den requirement!
