Welcome New Scouts

We have several new scouts who’ve joined over the past few months. Please welcome Ethan R., Emma R., Catherine B., Russell T., Benjamin L., Anastasia K. Isaac L., Mark G. Evan W.and Maayan R. We are so excited to have our new members!

 

September Pack Meeting on Tuesday September 10th

Pack 550's first meeting of the school year will be the SECOND Tuesday of September at the Kirkland Congregational Church at 6:30pm. We'll have a DIY Raingutter Regatta and more!Come early if you have questions or need to renew your membership.  Those who need to renew have received emails. You will also want to bring your checkbook to pay for the Zoo Snoozes (exact cost TBA on Sept 9th) and the upcoming camps and Sounders Game (cost?). 

 

Swap Gear, Earn A Recycle Patch

Pack 550 is continuing our gear recycling program! Swap in any uniform items such as neckerchiefs or slides that are no longer needed. (NOTE: 4th grade Webelos use the same neckerchief and slide for 5th grade.) Every scout that swaps in gear will earn a recycling patch. We'll have a gear swap and dues renewal table at the September pack meeting.

Girls and Boys Welcome

We will have an upcoming information night for friends or neighbors who are interested in Cub Scouts.  We are hoping to have it on September 24th. We will be doing water rockets. Families can join online (follow the steps on our website http://www.kirklandpack550.com/join or by completing a paper registration, which will be available at our information night. 

 

 

Cub Day at Camp Edward - Sept. 21 or Oct 27

Cub Day. Pack 550 will be going to Cub Day on Saturday September 21st and Sunday October 27th: Hallowe’en Edition- Camp Edwards[/b] Please choose one day to attend; this is a one day camp event.  Spend the day playing games and doing crafts; try out the archery and BB gun ranges.  BB gun ranges are for kids ages 7-10. The pack will pay $32 for every Scout in the pack to attend. Your only expense for Cub Day is $6 by check (or $6.49 by Paypal) for the adult to cover lunch. This is the perfect way to experience camp.  Siblings age 6 to 10 can attend for $32 and participate in activities, siblings under 6 who want to buy lunch, pay $6 by check, ($6.49 via Paypal) and siblings younger than 6 who do not want to buy lunch, are free. Six-year-olds can participate in everything but shooting activities. If you plan to pay by Paypal and bring more than a Cub Scout and adult, e-mail Margo for Paypal price. [b]If you plan to attend on 9/21, you will need to pay by check or Paypal by the end of the Sept 10th pack meeting. Service Project - Saturday, October 5

Save the date to help out at the Food Bank Farm. We’ll be harvesting squash and other veggies from 9-12pm. Come and stay as long as you can. Additional details will be sent closer to the date. Thanks to Hannah L for coordinating this service opportunity for the pack!  This is a favorite service project for many of our kids. We hope to see many of you there! 

 

Scout Day at Sounders - Sunday, October 6

Scout Day at the Sounders is happening on October 6th, thanks to the Seattle BSA Council. The Sounders will play at 1:00 and will be playing against Minnesota United.  Please sign up below and pay (cost) at the 9/10/19 pack meeting. Tickets will be ordered on 9/11/19 and distributed at the 10/1 meeting or you can make arrangements with Margo to receive them prior.

 

Zoo Snoozes 10/25 to 10/26 & 11/1 to 11/2

We still have a few openings for the 10/25 Zoo Snooze.  If you would like to sign up, please use this link: LINK

If you have already signed up, please watch for an  email from Margo on 9/9/19 to find out the total cost for the Zoo Snooze. You will hold your spot by paying by check at the Pack Meeting on 9/10/19.  

 

2020 Cub Scout Winter Camp will take place at Camp Sheppard and registrations are open now. All 0550 pack members are invited to register for Camp Session 5 (between Feb 21th and Feb 23rd) without delay as high-demand sessions are filling fast.

The winter camp fee is $120 for Friday night arrivals and $110 per person for Saturday morning arrivals.

 If you are registering as a guest, please don’t forget to enter the pack (pack number is: 550; District is New South, Council is: Chief Seattle Council) details on the general admission information page.

[b]Program and Training Conference - for any parents![/b] The Program and Training Conference (PTC) is a one stop training opportunity for leaders and parents from the entire council to get together and learn more about Scouting. The all day conference features many outstanding opportunities for both position-specific and supplemental training adult leaders in Cub Packs, Scout Troops, Venture Crews and Sea Scouts, as well as district and council committees. It's all at PTC and as you can see in the name... it's about Program and it's about Training which will create a better Scouting program for the youth we serve.  Date: 10/19/19 Time: 7:40 to 4:45 p.m. Location: N. Parent Volunteers Needed:  Our Pack meetings only run smoothly with the help of our parent volunteers. Please sign up to help with an event--see below for available opportunities.  


Even if you are new to Scouting, we can mentor you and walk you through the process of leading an event. [/b]We need every family to help with an event or leadership at some point during the year. [b]  Thank you for your help! Please e-mail margo to let her know what you are willing to help with.  


Fundraising Committee - We need an individual to pick up chocolate from Seattle Chocolates (likely in early October) and someone to organize and hand out chocolate to families for sales (early October). 

Information Night Helpers for Recruitment on 9/24/19 

[b]Rocket Launch 10/12 or 10/13 [/b]- Organizer - Coordinate the equipment, launchers and volunteers for the event.  Advertise event to the pack, coordinate sign up at pack meeting and online, and lead the event on the day of the launch.  

Swimming Event Organizer 10/18/19 - Set up a pool time with a local pool with lifeguards.  Advertise event to pack, coordinate sign ups, and send out instructions to families prior to event.  

Board Game Night Organizer 11/15 or 11/16 This just requires advertising to families, creating a sign up, and being at the event to organize and make it a fun night! Families can bring a game and groups can sit at tables and have fun playing games.  

Redmond Lights - Organizer - Communicate the event, be the contact person, attend the event, and communicate who attended.

MLK Service Project 1/20/20  Communicate the event, be the contact person, attend the event, and communicate who attended.

Winter Camp 1/31 and 2/1  - Communicate the event, be the contact person and answer questions, attend the event, and communicate who attended.

Blue and Gold Party 2/4/20 - Committee of 2-3 to plan the event.

Pinewood Derby 2/18/20 (February) - Committee of 2-3 to plan the event.

Thank you to Kara P. for organizing a hike and to Mike G. for organizing a softball game and Resident Camp.  They were wonderful events!  


Recruiter Award - Our Scouts do a great job of recruiting new scouts for our pack.  Every Scout can earn the “Recruiter Patch” once while they are a Cub Scout. We would like to see everyone earn this patch.  We look forward to celebrating your Scout and the person they recruit in our pack meetings!
