January 2020 Newsletter - Cub Scouts

Pack Meeting 1/7/20 6:30 to 7:30 - We have a fun pack meeting planned for January.  We will learn about first aid from Cole’s Mom, Maureen, who is a Physician’s Assistant who specialized in working in the ER.  After a short presentation, Scouts will participate in a first aid relay race and practice what they learn by rotating through stations.  Please consider signing up to help on the sign up below.

Chocolate Money is Due - January 7, 2020!

Payments for chocolate is due by the pack meeting on January 7, 2020, While checks are the preferred method of payment, due to safety and ease of record keeping, cash will also be accepted[/b].  Please turn payment in to our Treasurer, Kara P. She will be at the chocolate table. We so appreciate everyone for selling chocolate or participating in the buy-out. All of your hard work and support is what allows us to offer fun activities to everyone all year!

Pinewood Derby Cars - Scouts can pick up their Pinewood Derby car kit at the January 7th Pack Meeting!  We will have our first workshop on 2/1 and our second one on 2/11. Times are at the bottom of the page. We have tools at our workshops so kids can have their cars cut out and they can prepare them for racing at the 2/18/20 Pinewood Derby.

Gluten from or Vegetarian? We are ordering pizza for Pinewood Derby and we will be planning food for the Blue and Gold Party.  Please email Margo by January 10th if you are gluten free, or need vegetarian accommodation. We will try to accommodate food needs.

Beverage Cooler for pack to borrow? Do you have a large beverage cooler or dispenser the pack could use for our Blue and Gold Party on 2/4/20 and also for the Pinewood Derby on 2/18/20?  If you aren’t sure what it is, there is an example below on Amazon. We would like to serve water in cups rather than having all the plastic from bottled water. Please email Margo at if you have one to loan the pack for these dates.

After you have purchased your tickets, please use the sign up Genius so we know who to meet at the slopes!

March Pack Meeting - PLEASE NOTE THE DATE CHANGE TO 3/31/20![/b]We are switching our pack meeting in March from 3/3 to 3/31 because the 4th and 5th graders have a music concert on the 3/3/20.  We will be celebrating our 5th graders crossing over to Boy Scouts on 3/31/20 at 6:30 p.m. at the church.

Band Saw or Scroll Saw & Operator needed! We will have a Pinewood Derby Workshop on February 1st (Saturday) from 1:45 to 4:30 at the church, and on February 11th (Tuesday) from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the church. We are in need of someone with a saw to cut out cars. A band saw or a scroll saw will work.  A band saw is ideal, to remove a lot of wood. We will have parents available to block off the area with saws. We have one parent who can bring and run a scroll saw, but we have too many Scouts for one person to work on all the carsr! Please email: Margo if you can assist.

Bring your Friends!Recruitment is the job of every Scout and every family in our pack.  We will be losing 12 of our Scouts this year as they graduate or cross over to Scout Troops and a year from March we will have 23 more Scouts crossing over to BSA Scouts or graduating out. We need to continue to bring in new members in our younger grades.  Families are welcome to bring friends to pack meetings. The ultimate way to grow the pack is to invite your friends to join the pack. You want to be where your friends are, and they want to be where you are! Families who join in the coming months will be able to sign up for the fun activities, including camps,. that we have during the summer.

Thank you!

Thank you to Julie B.for setting up the Redmond Lights event and for getting the marshmallow kits for us to do at our December Pack Meeting!  Thank you Kara P. for setting up the tree planting event in December with the City of Kirkland!
